Developing writers for the future of Television

The television industry always needs fresh ideas but, with so many writers fighting for attention, it can be difficult to get your voice heard. And how do you know when you’re ready to go?

TAPS has grown steadily into the leading training scheme for new television writers. With strong links to all the major broadcasters and constant support from Skillset, TAPS offers professionally taught courses at accessible rates. An entirely not-for-profit organisation, every penny we receive is spent ensuring our development programmes are unbeatable for content, quality and value.

The only national writers’ scheme, TAPS is dedicated to finding new writers and runs workshops across the UK. This has allowed us to forge tight bonds with regional broadcasters while reaching as many writers as possible.

To ensure our courses are always on the cutting edge, we review them annually with the input of our Artistic Advisory Board. A collection of forward-thinking producers, writers, directors and commissioners from all the leading broadcasters, the Board ensures TAPS’ work is always based on actual industry needs.

Above all things, TAPS is about developing the writer. TAPS is more than just a training programme and you can’t just buy a place in our workshops. From all the applications, we select only the most promising writers and from the workshops to the showcases, we invest a lot of time in them.

But your relationship with TAPS doesn’t end with the course. We are frequently contacted by producers looking for a new voice and we work extremely hard to match the right talent to the demand. To facilitate this, we have created NEW ONLINE membership areas so producers can search our delegate pool to find the talent they need. As a TAPS graduate, you will be able to keep your records current and advertise your achievements through our site.

If you think you have what it takes, we want to hear from you. Many previous delegates are now successful television writers. Explore the site, get in touch and see how we can help you too.
